5 things to do in Canggu

 In Blog

Canggu has become increasingly popular over the last few years, and for a good reason. Canggu has the charm of the “real Bali,” while still providing plenty of activity’s and dining options.

Below we have listed 9 of our favorite things to do in the Canggu area.

1. Visit the Tanah Lot Temple
Tanah Lot probably doesn’t need much introduction, since it is Bali’s most famous temple. The temple is just a 15 minute drive from Canggu.

The Tanah Lot presents itself best at sunset, where the flaming sun can be a spectacular background for the temple. Unfortunately, this is one of Bali’s worst kept secrets. So you will be sharing the view with what particularly in the peak seasons, can feel like the majority of Bali’s tour busses.

If you want to avoid the crowds it is best to get to the temple early in the day.

2. Test your swing at the Nirwana Golf Course
Playing the 18 holes at the Nirwana golf course is like taking a miniature tour through Bali. The course takes you through terraced rice paddies, along the Indian Ocean, and past Bali’s iconic Tanah Lot temple.

In addition to that, golfers will enjoy the challenges of the Greg Norman designed golf course. This is considered to be Indonesia’s best golf course by many.

3. Explore the Canggu area from the back of a horse
Bali Equestrian Centre offers horseback riding tours in Canggu. You can choose between tours on the beach or village tours. The beach tours will take you along the water’s edge on Berawa Beach early in the morning or at sunset. A village tour will take you through rice paddies and small villages.

The tours are held at walking pace making them suitable for children from 7 years and up. For even younger children, Bali Equestrian club offer pony rides and grooming within the club grounds.

4. Go shopping at Canggu’s Sunday Market
Every Sunday Samadi Bali, a yoga and recreational center in Canggu, hosts a small market. The market is a mix of organic local farmers selling fruits and vegetables, the occasional fisherman selling their catch of the day, artisans from the nearby villages sell handmade jewelry, and other handcrafts and Canggu expats selling homemade products.

The market is open from 9 am to 2 pm.

5. Relax at one of Canggu’s Spas
A Bali holiday isn’t complete without a spa treatment or a massage. There are numerous treatments to choose among, from a traditional Balinese massage to more exotic treatments with mint and coffee.

There more than 20 spas around Canggu, so chances are good that you will have one just around the corner from your villa. Treatments can be arranged within your villa. The spas around Canggu rarely disappoint, but there is huge difference in the facilities. Facilities can range from very modest to ultra-elegant.
